Data Center Management

Each data center has the following features: Controlled physical access, Availability of Uninterruptable Power Supply-protected circuits (to sustain power for short intervals of power loss), Power Distribution Units that allow for remedial monitoring of power usage, Air Conditioning (humidity, filtering, cooling), Some form of fire suppression (typically sprinklers), Standard square-hole racks for systems, Adequate lighting. Engineering IT provides: Liaison to Data Center Shared Services. Coordination on installation of equipment with DCSS. DCSS or Engineering IT will notify customers of outages or degradation of services in the data center facilities as soon as possible. Advice on the best solution for you.

Desktop Replacement Program

The Desktop Replacement Program is an initiative by Engineering IT Shared Services to provide all College of Engineering units with standardized, up-to-date computer. Through an annual bulk purchase of computers and displays for the entire College, Engineering IT is able to provide units with higher quality desktops at a lower cost than is available through smaller purchases. 1.Enrolled users will be provided with a standard computer with a basic keyboard and mouse. Specialized input devices such as wireless keyboards and mice are not included but may be purchased by the unit or individual.A unit may choose either up to two basic displays, or a single extra-large display. 2.Engineering IT will handle purchasing, receiving, and distribution for computers and monitors. Setup of computers will be done under the Standard IT Support service. 3.Engineering IT will install and maintain systems during their lifecycle. All enrolled computers are replaced on a four year cycle, and enrolled monitors are replaced on an eight year cycle. The replacement cycles are managed by Engineering IT. 4.Any computer or monitor that fails before its scheduled replacement date will be replaced within one business day at no additional cost. 5.Units may choose to enroll new users in the program mid-year (e.g. a new staff position) and a computer and monitor(s) will be provided on their start date with three (3) days prior notice.

Information Security for the college of engineering

Engineering IT will provide the following in regards to information security: Acting as liaison to OPIS in the event of security, copyright, or other information security incidents. Providing first contact with relevant users when a security incident occurs. Auditing of system and network level security to be in compliance with University policies and procedures. Isolating and otherwise disabling network connectivity of systems that pose a security threat to other systems and networks. In the case of supported systems, maintaining appropriate operating system configuration and software updates. In the case of supported systems, taking appropriate action to remove security threats and methods of compromise.

IT Equipment Decommissioning

1.Physical Removal: Engineering IT will schedule and arrange for physical removal of equipment for processing. Engineering IT will take an inventory of equipment prior to removal 2.Property Transfer: Engineering IT will gather all necessary information to initiate transfer of equipment from the requesting unit to Engineering IT via Fabweb. 3.Data Removal: Engineering IT will ensure that any data stored within equipment is unrecoverable, as mandated by state law and University policies. 4.Engineering IT employees will process the equipment according to University Property Accounting guidelines.

Remote Connections (CITRIX)

Citrix is a remote client that lets you to use Windows apps from any device. The apps run on the EWS cloud server, and all the rendering is done on the server. Citrix offers the ability to open files that are in your EWS home directory, as well as files that are on the machine you are connecting from.
