Contact the GIS Librarian to schedule an introduction to geographic or numeric data for your class. There is an instructional lab in the library that has ArcGIS and SPSS installed on fourteen workstations if you do not have this software available in your classroom. For LAS courses, the CITL Data Analytics Program also offers course tutorials incorporating data and software instruction. The Chemistry library offers many Chemistry related databases and journals.

In response to the OSTP Public Access Memo from 2013, most funding agencies require Data Management Plans (DMPs) with every funding proposal. Funders typically outline or link to their DMP requirements in their funding announcements. DMPs can play a role in a funder's award decision. DMPs have advantages beyond their role in grant awards. The development of these documents can prompt valuable communication and planning among collaborators during the early stages of a project. Later on, a DMP can provide a framework for documentation that keeps graduate students, postdocs, and collaborators aware of systematic organization, expectations, and policies. At the end of the project, everyone is more likely to be on the same page when it's time to publish a paper, submit a new grant or renewal, or write a thesis. The Research Data Service provides fast, free, and confidential feedback on draft DMPs. We work with library-based subject experts so that our feedback incorporates disciplinary and data management expertise.

We call Data Planet an “aggregation” of datasets – a collection of datasets served up together. It’s the same concept as the big journal databases available through your library that bring together journals from different publishers – we do something similar but with statistical datasets as the content."

Digital humanities is the use of digital data and technologies to answer humanities research questions. From text analysis to data visualization, experts at the Scholarly Commons are available to consult and collaborate with you on research and instruction goals. 

We provide scanners that can handle books, slides, and paperwork, as well as photo editing and optical character recognition software for do-it-yourself digitization.

The depository for all technical reports produced by the College of Engineering. The Center generally defines a technical report as any report that has not been published elsewhere in its entirety. The EDC collection is housed at the lower level of the Grainger Engineering Library Information Center. The collection consists of over 16,000 titles. They comprise primarily of 23 departmental series. The collection includes reports written for governmental and industrial projects, theses written as technical reports, and some reprints of journal articles.

The Map Library collects extensively in the areas of geographic information science and geographic information systems. Works on both topics can be found in the Library's catalog by searching the subject : Geographic information systems.

The Scholarly Commons offers researchers consultations for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data collection, analysis and geospatial data.

The IDEA Lab provides space and technology for collaboration, innovation, and entrepreneurship and supports a wide range of digital scholarship activities. The lab functions as a demonstration and prototyping site for exploring the interface between design learning, informatics, visualization, and data analytics. It features the informatics innovations and pioneering technologies that make the Grainger Engineering Library Information Center unique.

Guide to Sources in Geography & Geographic Information Science

The Illinois Data Bank is a public access repository for publishing research data from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Identify potential collaborators. Find cutting-edge scholarly works. Showcase research expertise. Illinois Experts provides access to over 2,000 Illinois researcher profiles through an online, searchable portal, updated weekly from the Scopus abstract and citation database.

Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery will obtain materials not available in the Illinois Library system. This includes items that are checked out, lost or missing.
