Change to XSEDE’s web single sign-on (SSO) user experience

Mar 29, 2021

XSEDE’s web single sign-on (SSO) process is used to login to XDMod, Jetstream’s web interface, several XSEDE web sites (JIRA, Confluence, RDR, Research Software Portal, etc.), in the User Portal’s "Other Sign In Options", and is one of the options for logging in to Globus Transfer. This web login process uses a "weblogin.xsede.org" service operated by Globus for XSEDE.

XCI is wrapping up plans to transition this service to the "idp.xsede.org" service operated by NCSA for XSEDE. When this transition happens in April 2021 all web SSO logins using XSEDE credentials will require multi-factor authentication (MFA). Users who have not yet enrolled in XSEDE Duo will be prompted to enroll the first time they log in using idp.xsede.org. Users will continue to have the option to use linked campus identities for authentication, which may or may not require MFA.

XSEDE MFA documentation will be updated to explain this change.

The XSEDE User Portal (XUP) main login process does not use XSEDE’s web SSO and will not be affected by this change. The XUP’s "Other Sign In Options" will be affected.
